The Durga Puja is the time of reliving our cultural heritage at Disari, a women community of shyamnagar. Every year a play is staged by Uttarayan Group as a part of this occasion. Last year the play “Bongo Bachelor Sangho” adapted from rabindranath Tagore’s “Chirakumar Sabha” and Rajshekhar Basu’s “Kachi Sangsad” was staged.

The story revolves around how the main protagonist “Kesto” , a die-hard supporter of bachelorhood, falls for the beauty of a girl “Padmabati” and resigns to the post of being a leader to their bachelor club.

The characters were portrayed by localities who were mostly students. The early 60’s Bong (Babu) culture had to be recreated for playing. Right from the dresses like “Dhuti”, “Coat” and accessories like “Huka”,”Takghori”, everything had to be set up perfectly to picture that time frame.

Local stage, on which this drama was performed, was not fully equipped for a professional drama. The sound and light arrangements are also not upto the mark for a professional play. But in spite of such hindrances, the play was wonderfully presented and was a great success.
